Grading/Evaluation Criteria:
Students will receive a letter grade of A (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79), or NG (No Grade) (0-69 or more than the allowed number of absences) at the end of the semester which will reflect their overall work in this course. Grading will be on a percentage basis based on homework, class participation and attendance, quizzes, tests, letters (due Jan. 25,Feb. 13,Mar. 20, Apr. 17 ), the reading log (due Friday, March 9), the American culture project (final paper due Friday, April 13); some interim deadlines will be earlier), and other written assignments. The reading log will count for 5% of the final grade; the American culture project will count for 10% of the final grade. The final exam will count for 10% of the final grade. The first half of the semester counts for 35% of the final grade; the second half of the semester counts for 40% of the final grade. Each half semester grade is based on homework (50%) and quizzes, tests, and letters (50%). Any work that is plagiarized or not the work of the student will receive no credit. No make-up quizzes or tests will be given.
Expectations/Policies:
The ELI attendance policy states that students may miss no more than 10 core classes during the semester. Students who exceed this limit will receive NG in ADVANCED CORE . All students are expected to arrive on time for class. If students arrive 10 minutes or more late for class, they will receive half an absence for that class. Continual tardiness will result in a lower grade for the course.
Please turn off cell phones while you are in class. In case of emergency your family can call 703-993-3660 (the ELI office phone number) and someone in the office will come find you in class.
Final Exams:
ELI final exams take place the last week of classes and are held during the regular class period.
The final exam in this class will be on Wednesday, May 2.
Honor Code:
