ADVANCED CORE Reading Prediction/Summary/Reaction Log
Please show your book to Ellen before you start reading. Please choose your book by FEBRUARY 2, 2007.
1. Write down the title, author, publisher, date of publication, and number of pages.
(The book must have at least 100 pages).
2. Examine the book. Read the front cover and the back cover.
Look at the pictures (and captions) and look at the titles of the chapters.
Spend five to ten minutes flipping through the book.
3. Write one paragraph predicting what you think the book will be about based on your examination. Label it "book prediction." This should be written before you start reading the book.
4. Write down the title of Chapter 1 (or simply Chapter 1 if there is no title).
5. Before you read the chapter, write one or two sentences predicting what you think this chapter will be about.
6. Read Chapter 1.
7. Write one paragraph summarizing what Chapter 1 was about. Do not copy sentences from the book. (plagiarism)
8. Follow steps 4-7 for every chapter in the book.
9. When you have finished reading the whole book, write your reaction to the book. (at least one page) and tell me what you liked and disliked about this book. Please be specific and give examples whenever you can. Remember that this is your reaction and not just another summary of the book.
The reading log is due Friday,March 9 (by 3:00 pm). You will lose half a grade for every day that your reading log is late. Your reading log must be typed.
